MEDITERRANEAN SUMMER IN NORTH CYPRUS

A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE

THE START OF JUNE is usually the beginning of real summer in Cyprus.
We switch from wearing jeans to shorts; we put the duvets away and use just sheets or duvet covers on the beds at night. Rain is very unlikely from June until at least September, though not impossible. By mid-june we sometimes have to the air conditioning on in the middle of the day, and sometimes overnight too, although it’s not as humid as later in the summer. Daytime temperatures tend to range from about 25-30C, or a little more, and night-time temperatures around 15-22C.

With the hot weather making its presence, it is now time to enjoy all measure of water sports.If you are among those who can’t sit still, then perhaps riding the banana, waterskiing, snorkelling or riding a jet ski are for you. Or, more energetically, perhaps beach volley, throwing Frisbee or beach tennis are more to you liking.Or, alternatively, you could do something completely different and try SCUBA diving. Scuba diving in Cyprus is a dream. Clear visibility, warm waters, the chance to see turtles, octopus, grouper, numerous other fish and fascinating coral and plant life. See the remains of amphora and other pottery all over the area dating back several thousand years lying undisturbed on the sea bed.

Apart from the sports activities, many of the beach clubs organise parties-get your dancing shoes on- what better way to relieve stress and get fit at the same time!

On the other hand, if you’re one of those people who like to chill out and have a calm and peaceful holiday, then relax on a quiet beach, idling away the time sunbathing and reading your book. Alternatively, a day trip on a Gullet with family and friends and just the gentle lapping of the blue waters of the Mediterranean to lull all your cares awat.

Even if you spend most of your time on the beach during the summer, you can still find some time for other activities. You could visit the popular stables to the East of Kyrenia and book a ride or go viist the Shipwreck Museum in Kyrenia alternatively there is bowling, paragliding or even sight-seeing in the beautiful area of the karpaz and, of course, complete the day by a sumptuous meal at one of the many Restaurants in and around kyrenia.
